Able to accommodate thousands of passengers each trip, it is no wonder that incidents and accidents occasionally happen on modern cruise ships. Some of them are avoidable, while others require explanation. When a 14-year-old boy was reportedly beat up by a security guard on an unidentified Carnival cruise ship, the story made the local papers.
Although the names have not been released to the press, a lawsuit was filed against the cruise line by the parents of the teenage boy. According to the suit, the boy snuck into a nightclub on the ship and was accosted by a security guard who ran him out of the club and allegedly roughed him up in a nearby stairwell. The young man claims that the guard: “Grabbed me by the shirt, slammed me like really hard against the wall.”
The family’s attorney, Spencer Aronfeld, initially filed suit against the world’s largest cruise line because his clients want the security guard relieved of duty as soon as possible The family is also seeking damages based on psychological and neurological injuries they claim the boy suffered during the incident. As usual, Carnival Cruise Lines did not respond to calls for comment.
