Mr. Maus is a Florida native practicing law in South Florida since 1993. He currently limits his practice to the areas of insurance related claims, commercial litigation, contracts, employment issues, liability claims (plaintiff and defense), and business consulting.
Mr. Maus is “AV” rated by Martindale-Hubbell. An “AV” rating is the highest rating awarded for professional ability and adherence to professional standards of conduct and ethics. He has been honored annually since 2011 by Florida Trend Magazine as one of Florida’s Legal Elite. He has also been honored annually since 2011 by Thomson Reuters 2012 as one of Florida’s “Super Lawyers”, an award given to only the top 5% of Florida lawyers. He is a 1993 graduate of Nova Southeastern Law Center.
Mr. Maus began his career at the Broward County State Attorney’s Office as a Felony Trial Prosecutor. In his last year as a Prosecutor, he obtained guilty verdicts in 20 of his last 21 jury trials. Prior to opening his own firm, he worked for a large multi-state litigation firm based in Miami, specializing in first and third party liability defense, automobile warranty litigation and administrative hearings. Mr. Maus has tried over 60 jury trials to verdict and has litigated claims in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, as well as, Collier and Lee counties on the west coast.
Mr. Maus has successfully argued before the 3rd and 4th District Courts of Appeals, The United States District Court for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, and the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. He is currently admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, and all Florida State Courts. Reported cases: Vasaly v. Kluger, Peretz, Kaplan and Berlin, P.A., 707 So.2d 427 (Fla. 3rd DCA 1998), Lukowsky v. Hauser and Metsch, P.A., 677 So. 2d 1383 (Fla. 3rd DCA 1996), Mizrahi v. Sonne, 43 So.3rd 59 (Fla. 3rd DCA 2010), and Mancuso v. Florida Metropolitan University, 2010 WL 3702511 (S.D. Fla. 2010).
Mr. Maus previously served as the Mayor of the City of Oakland Park, and also served for three years on the City Commission. Mr. Maus served a two year term on the Broward County Charter Review Committee, having been appointed by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners. He also served on the Broward County Planning Council and the County’s Resource Recovery Board. He is the former President of The Hundred Club of Broward County, a non-profit group that supports the families of police officers and firefighters killed or seriously injured in the line of duty. He is a member of the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute, and has sat on numerous committees for the Broward County Bar Association.
Charles H. Bechert is an experienced trial attorney who dedicates his practice to insurance related claims including homeowner and automobile claims. Mr. Bechert is admitted to practice in all of Florida’s state and Federal trial and appellate courts. He has been AV rated by Martindale Hubbell since 2004. Mr. Bechert is a 1993 graduate of the Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
Mr. Bechert began his career as an Assistant State Attorney at the Broward County State Attorney’s Office where he prosecuted crimes involving misdemeanor, domestic violence, and felony offenses punishable by life in prison. After gaining extensive trial experience at the State Attorney’s Office, he joined a large insurance defense firm defending insurance companies in homeowner and automobile liability claims. Mr. Bechert has tried over 80 jury trials in his career.
Mr. Bechert is a member of the Florida Bar and is admitted to practice in the United State Court for the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida, and the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. Mr. Bechert is a member of the Broward County Bar Association and is a Certified Circuit Court Mediator.
Mrs. Peebles is a 2011 graduate of Stetson University Law School. Upon graduation, she immediately accepted a position with a large West Palm Beach insurance defense firm handling first party property damage claims on behalf of Citizens Property Insurance Corporation. Mrs. Peebles has gained extensive experience in the evaluation and investigation of homeowner property damage claims, contractor licensing and regulatory issues, and commercial disputes. Mrs. Peebles is licensed to practice in all Florida State courts.
Ms. Blanco is a 2012 graduate of the St. Thomas University School of Law. Upon graduation, Ms. Blanco accepted a position as General Counsel for a large healthcare clinic operator where she gained valuable experience in a wide variety of business and healthcare related issues. Since joining the Maus Law Firm, Ms. Blanco has concentrated on insurance related litigation involving homeowner property damage disputes. Ms. Blanco is licensed to practice in all Florida State Courts.
